Banana is pleased to present its inaugural duo exhibition Hibernation, featuring works by Karim Hussein (AT) and Maria Steyer (DE). The exhibition invites viewers into an intimate setting of a private apartment, a place to settle, pause and take a break. Like animals curling into winter sleep, the beginning of the year is a time to be indoors, turn inward, and notice what’s close. Karim Hussein’s canvases bring warmth and familiarity, qualities rare in Berlin’s dark, dismal winter months. Maria Steyer’s sculptures are often inspired by human relationships, with an emphasis on maternal bonds, as well as attachment between the materials she employs.

Sugar Coated presents the work of four artists – Emilia Auersperg (DE), Sara Blosseville (FR/FI), Amanda Burzić (AT), and Antonia Nannt (DE) – together in a space that is not yet fully complete: an under-construction hair-beauty-make-up salon with a gallery upstairs. Situated on Kastanienallee, between a mix of boutiques, cosmetic studios, and barber shops, the exhibition looks at our attraction to material things, the ways we adorn ourselves, and often externalized processes of transformation. Through the patterned glass window upstairs, visitors will glimpse a sparkling, candy-coloured display.
